INTERVIEW WITH MR. STEPHEN ANOKYE,
IMMEDIATE-PAST ASST. HEADMASTER OF PREMPEH &
NEW HEADMASTER OF OWASS

Because of our tradition of excellence and our inspiring motto Suban ne Nimdee, Prempeh College has always been the training ground for future Headmasters. Being the most respected institution in the Ashanti Region means that Prempeh teachers are the most sought after when a Headmastership vacancy opens in another school. Over the past 2 decades, more than 30 Prempeh teachers have been sent to run other schools, especially schools where discipline is a problem. And this year, our own Assistant Head has been promoted to Headmaster at OWASS, where he'll extend our Suban ne Nimdee philosophy to the less fortunate.

December 2003: Anokye speaks
"I can make OWASS better than Prempeh as I helped Prempeh when I
was in charge of the Science and Math Quiz."

A parlous future

Ohene Kwapong - he considers himself Prempeh's greatest graduate! "I really do not want to be involved with any of you Prempeh people. I'm 38yrs old, I've made my money, I have a beautiful wife....all gratitude to God.....Let me enjoy my life."

- Ohene Aku Kwapong, Class of '79

"Yes. I went to Prempeh and I was an ASP there...and I very much appreciated it, but there are other schools I went to that are more closer to my heart than Prempeh. Yes. I attended Prempeh College from 1974-1981 (7years), I also attended Salem Boys Boarding School, but I also did attend MIT for 7 years, and then there is Columbia University.....so I have plenty of schools to worry about helping. There are more important things in my life like my BEAUTIFUL WIFE to worry about."

- Ohene Aku Kwapong, Class of '79

"I've been living in London with my beautiful wife and somehow there are all these garbage being thrown at me. IF YOU ARE A MARRIED MAN, I HOPE YOU ALSO FEEL PROUD ENOUGH ABOUT YOUR WIFE TO SCREAM IT ALOUD TO THE WHOLE WORLD.....AT LEAST, JUST TO HONOR HER."

- Ohene Aku Kwapong, Class of '79

Ohene Aku Kwapong, the man with the pretty wife and an MBA from MIT believes he's better than anyone and the way he treats his fellow men stretches credulity. Ohene Aku Kwapong is a man whose fanfaronade has sent every good man into hiding. His around-the-clock braggings about his accomplishments and his wife's private parts has won him enemies aplenty. Owing to his constant braggings, a lot of angry Amanfoo have attacked him over the years, which we have compiled some here for posterity. Just peruse the website archives and read what people have written about Ohene Aku Kwapong and you could catalogue a few of the unpleasantest words that ever blotted paper! Show us a man who loves Kwapong, and has something positive to say about him, and we will show you a man who doesn't exist!

When Prempeh held a Golden Jubilee Celebration in December 1999, Aku Kwapong made a trip to Ghana to attend the event. But alas, Kwapong had to hide in Accra, the capital, and was never able to travel to Kumasi to witness the ceremony because a mob of over 300 people laid ambush in anticipation of Kwapong's arrival - each with a very commonplace wish of decapitating him. I mock thee not! Not only do even the unborn revile Kwapong, his thousands of adversaries, especially the Canadian Division of the anti-Kwapong Crusade, known as JAOK (Juniors Against Ohene Kwapong) has even set up a website. This group is a registered organization! Besides the recurring assaults on his life, a JAOK group based in Texas hacked into Kwapong's personal business website, mBaX.com, recently, destroying the site and deleting all his files. The following is the row that broke out that day and Kwapong's pronouncements, the most distressing of which have been highlighted in the preceding quotes (above) for your convenience. Let's take a look at why Kwapong has a very parlous future, as far as employment, social and community issues are concerned:

A parlous future

One Senior discovered photos of many nude Ghanaian women on the web and brought it to Amanfoo's attention. A serious debate on people's civil liberties and protection of our cultural heritage ensued. By the time the debate was over, seniors were at war with the operators of the sex site. Weeks later, the "powers that be" in Ghana used this Amanfoo Debate as a reflection of the view of a Ghanaian poll. Ministers and Radio stations visited this site. Consequently, the Ministry of Communication ordered "hems" to clean her act. As a result, hems.com is now porno-free. Middlemen for such internet porn groups exploiting women in Ghana were rounded up and jailed!

The Sensational Hems Debate

We also had a discussion about whether outsiders should be considered for Honourary Amanfoo membership. Many thought it was an honour to have people asking to be a part of us; others opposed it.

Don't miss:

The Membership Debate

This was the most interesting debate ever! A debate about Ugandan dictator Idi Amin's former speeches; it is hilarious. You do not want to miss this:

The Amin Debate

The Great Expe Debate was the debate that led to the ousting of our former Interim Headmaster, Mr. Twumasi "Joe Expensive" Amponsah. It all began on January 4, 1998 when a senior in Adum, Kumasi, wrote to notify Amanfoo about Mr. Twumasi's benighted policies at the school.

With the boldest effrontery, Dr. Ohene Aku Kwapong, Class of 79 browned every Amanfoo off by calling his 79er friends to take the website out of the hands of Harold Ofori so that the Class of '79, "the most consistent and organised class in the history of Prempeh College," can have the website. He claimed that the Class of '79 gained more from Prempeh than any other class. I mock thee not! He treated every non-79er and a non-PhD holder with disdain. Not only did he went on to open a P.O. Box address for his group at the Trade Fair Site in Accra, but he also held a meeting in Accra with the goal of finding one of their own to maintain Prempeh's website, since Harold Ofori is a junior who came much later and therefore should not be allowed to help Prempeh in any way. Only the Class of '79 - the "class that earned more from Prempeh than any other," should be allowed to oversee the school's site.

It was Senior Castro, the 1979 DHall Prefect, who put a flea in Kwapong's ear to have him leave the webmaster alone. Yet, Kwapong did not budge. He went ahead and registered new domains for his website for the SUPERIOR CLASS OF '79.

Kwapong's arrogance disheartened so many Amanfoo that they tuned out. Senior Addo-Kuffuor tuned out. Senior Joseph Laing left, and so did Dr. Ernest K. Asante-Appiah, as well as many others.

However, this dream of a 79ers arcadia website was short-lived because after wasting $140 on the two domain names (prempeh.net and prempeh.org), Kwapong and his friends (more about them later) realized that it took more skill, vison, dedication, energy, time and money to operate a website than he originally thought. So he abandoned the idea.

In the long run, the Acting Headmaster, Twumasi Amponsah was sacked and ordered to leave Prempeh within 24 hours, but not until he incited the students, through the assistance of the Chaplain to burn down the school! I mock thee not (more about this later)! The vices surrounding the Twumasi-Sekyere saga which were the bane of Prempeh College and sapped the foundation of the students liberties, forced the Old Boys Association to sue Ghana Educational Service in court. The Old Boys asked to be made major stakeholders in the school. "We are 50 and we should run our own school," the writ said. On December 15, 1997, the Ghana Educational Service settled it out of court, making the Prempeh College Old Boys Association one of the 6 major stakeholders of Prempeh College. Read on:

The Great Expensive Debate

This was the longest debate Amanfoo ever had. Money does make people talk. Many people wrote in to share their views on how to raise funds, and why we never seem to raise any large sum. This, as you'll soon see, was the most important debate we ever had:

The Financial Debate

Another important archive is the Opoku Ware House Debate. When news arrived from Accra that the building of the 9th House was underway, another email debate ensued. Many opposed the choice of the name Opoku Ware on Prempeh campus, while others thought a ninth house as a Jubilee present was unwise, since the school library did not even have any books in them. In other words, we had misplaced priorities, some argued:

The Opoku Ware House Debate

Then there was the Ommanii vs Amanfoo. One Senior wanted to know if there was a singular and plural for Amanfoo. Should a single person be called Ommani or Amanfoo? Check it out:

Ommani or Amanfoo?
